POLICE CHIEF FORUM SET FOR DEC. 10

ITHACA – Because of low turnout to the first scheduled police chief selection forum, another meeting has been set. Community members who want to brainstorm about general characteristics they would like to see in the next police chief should attend the Dec. 10 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Beverly J. Martin Elementary School. About 15 people attended the first meeting. Mayor Alan Cohen attributed the low turnout to public shock and grief over the fatal stabbing of an 18-year Ithaca Police Department veteran, investigator Michael Padula. Originally, community members were to spend the Dec. 10 meeting organizing and prioritizing the criteria generated earlier. That process will now take place at a forum in January. A final forum will be held after that to interpret and discuss the implications of the guidelines set by the community. A final chief selection could be made in March.
