City of Ithaca
Chief of Police Search Process

NEXT MEETING ON CHIEF ABOUT IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Ithaca has already begun advertising the opening for a chief of police position.

Distribution of the job announcement began this month.

The screening committee’s next meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Southside Community Center, where the results of the characteristic ratings will be presented as a composite of the ideal candidate.

The interpretation forum will allow the community to discuss the selection criteria and the candidate evaluation form that will be created using the results of the community input process.

Preliminary screening of chief of police candidates should begin by mid-February, and the pool of leading candidates should be reduced to six.

Candidate interviews will take place in early March with private interviews and public forums. The screening committee will recommend a final list of three candidates to the mayor by late March, and representatives of the city will visit the home communities of the final candidates in early to mid-April.

The final selection would probably be made in mid- to late-April and announced to the public.

Updates on the progress of the screening committee can be found on its World Wide Web site: .
