The cut-off is what makes this design unique. An example of how this might be used: a program was designed to improve math scores of 4th graders. All students scoring below 50% on a standardized math test were enrolled in the program. Those scoring above 50% were assigned to the control or non-program group. Thus 50% on the standardized test (or pretest in this case) is the cut-off.
